I was a combat squad ldr with Kilo Co, 3rd Bn, 1st Marines in Vietnam from Dec 1969 through Feb 1971 & served in Quang Nam Province and up north of DaNanag & on various ops into Elephant Valley, etc. I was in from Jan 1968 through Feb 1971 & went to Boot camp in San Diego. I was bitter & disillusioned when I came back & got out, eventually returning to Vancouver and using the GI Bill at the University of BC. I graduated & became a teacher in Cranbrook, BC, raising a family & trying to forget all about the war over the next 25 yrs. I eventually took out my US citizenship & moved to Tucson AZ & am now recovering from the trauma I suffered in Vietnam. Anyway, semper fi to all my fellow Marines & to all those who served in combat in Vietnam.

Admin reply: Welcome Home Steve. I went through much the same experiences only US Army from Feb 68- Oct 70. I went to Univ of Manitoba under the GI Bill, Very, very few Canadians ever used the GI Bill to go to school, I wish you all the best brother.

I was born in Windsor but moved to the state as a child. I served in Viet Nam as a helicopter pilot and then in the National Guard and Reserve until I retired after 26 years. I am proud of my Canadian heritage and my service in the U S Army. Thank you for being there for people like me.

Admin reply: Welcome Home Randal. You chopper pilots saved our Canadian Bacon many times flying in to pull us out when the shit hit the fan. Thanks for signing our guestbook.

I served in vietnam from april 1970 - march1970.when I got back from vietnam the only help I got from the u.s. government was to go to the veterans hospital in allen park mich.and they would always give me pills and send me home till the next time. I have never asked for nothing from them but now I am trying to get some compensation from. Ineed it now because I recently lost my leg and other problems are popping up possibly conected to Vietnam. I don't know how much time I have left so I would like to say ( god bless all the veterans)

Admin reply: Thank you for sharing your experiences John and I am sure many veterans will appreciate knowing they are not alone in their struggles with health issues related to Vietnam. We receive a lot of calls from Vietnam veterans needing help but as you know it is a long difficult daunting process to file a claim with the VA. I wish we could do more to help.
Take care and Welcome Home John

Some 10 yrs ago, I met a man by the last name of Jmaeff. On his fireplace mantle was a photo of a US Marine and I inquired as to who that was. Sadly, it was his brother George who was KIA in Vietnam. It was then that I became aware of George Jmaeff, Karl Marlantes, and the novel Matterhorn. There are no words for the amount of respect I have for those Canadians who chose to serve in the Vietnam War.
I am wondering if anyone on this site has ever considered doing oral history interviews with Canadian Vietnam vets or their brother's in arms, family members, etc., to preserve their stories. I know that similar projects in the US have taken place. Canadian Vietnam vet stories deserve to be treasured.
Thank you...and thank you veterans for your service...Americans and Canadians alike...we are forever grateful.

Admin reply: Thank you Kelly for your interest in the Canadian Vietnam Veterans. To my knowledge there has not been any oral histories done specifically focusing on Canadian Vietnam veterans. I have met and talked with my fellow veterans for the past 30 years and heard some absolutely fascinating stories of their experiences. In hindsight I wish I had recorded their experiences.

Daniel A. Bolduc is remembered with a brass plaque on the town war cenotaph in Lennoxville.

Second question, are there any members who were MPs (1969-to 72) and were crew on V100 armored cars? A private collector is researching markings. coldwarcollection dot com

Admin reply: Hello Terry it is reassuring to know Daniel's name is inscribed on the cenotaph in Lennoxville. I remember seeing lots of the V100 armored vehicles during my tour in Vietnam but have never personally met any crew members

My Father
JOHN WILLIAM SIDNEY KELLY
May 19, 1945 - February 15, 1970

He was born in Montreal but grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Served in Vietnam 1969-1970.
Always in my heart ❤️😥

Admin reply: Thank you for visiting our website Sonya. Deeply regret that your father had to pay the ultimate sacrifice. His name is on our Canadian Memorial Wall and he will never be forgotten. I noticed your dad served with N Co 75th Rangers 69-70. I served with K Co 75th Rangers 69-70. Both N & K Co's stayed in the same camp for a few days so we may have crossed paths!!!!!
