Greetings: I served in the US Navy from October 17, 1963 to December 28th 1967. The last two years of my enlistment was spent on the USS FOX (DLG 33) and I served in Vietnam the last Six months of my enlistment. I am looking forward to joining soon! I just found a clipping from a newspaper from my late mother's things of the ad put in the local newspaper by Rob Purvis in 1986 ! :)

Admin reply: Hello Bill Nice to have you on board and it was great talking to you on the phone. The canoe's you build are awesome.

Hi Ron. Was nice talking with you a while back about the Vet plates issue. I give you great credit for standing up. The Legion here in Manitoba and in Ottawa, leaves a lot to be desired in regards of supporting those who wore the uniform. I will keep fighting for changes. My experience has been horrible. Keep up the good work. Salute. Thank you guys for your service.

Admin reply: Yes the "Royal Canadian Legion" has never been friends of Canadian Vietnam Veterans and have stuck a knife in our back every chance they got.

As a Canadian citizen I entered the United States in early 1969. I enlisted in the US Navy and entered bootcamp on Dec 29, 1969. I left the Navy 4 years later in December of 1973. My last deployment was on board the USS Hancock CVA-19 from May to Dec 1973. We deployed to SE Asia including the South China Sea and the Gulf of Tonkin.

On March 18th , 1968 While Stationed With C.Company 588th
Combat Engineers. We Came Under Mortar Attack.
I was A Sleep When I Heard A Distant Explosion , Someone Yelled Mortars ! As I got to the exit and heard another explosion , outside our hooch.I realized that the V.C. were walking the mortars. I Hit the deck and Heard a clank over my Head , a dark object had come through the roof . I covered up and waited for the explosion , I never heard it , at the time I weighed 180 pounds. The Concussion lifted me in the air. Before I hit the floor I felt a burning, stinging sensation in the left side of my body.
I was hit and I called for a Medic ! after that I heard this Whoosh , Whoosh , Whoosh , I realized that the mortar attack was still on , that the medics wouldnt come until it was over. Thanks to those medics and their quick response I survived.
I apologize for the poor punctuation , my computer is acting up.

I'm a day late, and a dollar short, yet Congrats to Ron, Rob, and all the Canadians who came South, and fought along side U.S. Troops in Vietnam. I just finished-up reading a very well written article on your Service in Vietnam on your CVVA website. I'm certain a lot of Americans are unaware of the Canadians service in South Vietnam. Thanx Again! :D

Admin reply: Thanks for your feedback Wayne perhaps we will see you at the next VVA meeting!
