Greg's Biography
-
Greg joined the USMC 14 June, 1964 at
seventeen years of age needing parental approval. Greg, a
Montreal born son of a snowbird went with his father to Los
Angeles via Miami Florida in 1957.

Receiving basic training MCRD, San Diego,
California. ITR, Camp Pendleton after thirty days leave over
Christmas '64 Greg received orders for 3rd Battalion, 9th
Marines with orders to ship out in the new year .

Ramos shipped with 3/9 in January of 65 for
Okinawa where Battalion took jungle warfare school and continued
training for beach landings.

After several weeks additional training
Battalion boarded USS Breckinridge. The APA had seen service
with her sister ship during WWII as a troop transport. Orders to
land, Red beach, Da Nang, Viet Nam came at sea for 5 March,
1965.

Greg was assigned security with 3/9 at US
Airforce base, Da Nang, Later moving to Marble Mountain.

Daily patrols,
prisoner control and taking part in several large scale
operations as well as relocation of locals, supply & logistics
were but a small part of duties assigned 3/9 for which President
L. B. Johnson Awarded PUC.
