Butch Buffie's Military Career
Basic and Advance Training
-
Butch enlisted in the Us Army in February
1968 and took his basic training in Fort Lewis, Washington and
was awarded the "US National Service Defense Medal". He
then received orders for advanced training at Fort Benning,
Georgia in April of 1968.
Republic of Vietnam Service
-
He was then ordered to serve a "tour of
duty" in Vietnam with the 9th Infantry Division from
September 20, 1968 to August 16, 1969. While serving in
Vietnam, Butch was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with "V"
(for valor), two Army Commendation
Medals with "V" (for valor), the "Republic of Vietnam Service Medal", and the
"Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal (w/60)".
US Service in Hawaii
-
Upon returning from Vietnam, Butch was given
new military orders to serve the remainder of an "active" 3-year
military commitment in Hawaii, at the Schofield Barracks, up
until 1971. He was then put on a 3-year "Inactive Reserve"
status and resumed his civilian career.
